Red, Black & White Finish

planetary-2-heartscreations-com

Put together, these are three dramatic colors. It’s pretty obvious why I named this one “Planetary.” Actually, hubby named it per my request. There was a lot of arranging and rearranging of strips on the design wall before sewing together. Then there was deciding where to join the strips. It was a bit challenging and a lot of fun. Mostly, I worked from my stash. I just happened to have a design roll of black and white fabrics which helped a lot. I didn’t need big pieces of reds, so those came from my scrap bins. I did sew all the circles on by hand, but looking back I could have easily fused them. I do like the turned edges though. For the back I used up large pieces. And yes, I do still have black and white fabrics and some reds. They just never go completely away, do they? (Pattern from Victoriana Quilt Designs)

I’m all ready for Christmas, so I’ll probably have time for another finish, maybe two. Must admit, though, bindings are becoming just a bit tedious! Fortunately, having a project finish outweighs that by quite a bit!

I know not everyone has a busy, busy schedule during the holidays, and maybe you’ll be enjoying some great sewing time. Others will have a packed schedule with friends and family. Ours is somewhat in between, but on a grand scale: quiet. Sewing with Christmas music playing will be much enjoyed. Wishing you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

NOTE:  There is still room in the Quilt & Sew-In Fall II – Please join me for a really fun time!

Today I’m linking up with Sew Fresh Quilts and My Quilt Infatuation. Hop on over to see all the great works!!

Fall 2016 Quilt & Sew-In Retreaters (minus 2) – Fabulous Group!!

So much to tell about the Fall Quilt & Sew-In Retreat in Blowing Rock, NC – SO much fun! Of course, I can’t share everything because of course, “What happens at retreat, stays at retreat!” How fortunate to have the best ladies to come and join in on the creativity and fun together. Lots of sewing, lots of laughs, learning new techniques and tricks, meeting new friends, catching up with old friends and more inspiration than I could handle!

The retreat was once again held at the Meadowbrook Inn – a beautiful and very comfortable boutique hotel in Blowing Rock, NC.

Take a peek inside our retreat:

Stashbuster Sunday – STACKED

This pattern, Stacked Squares by Moda, has been in my “want-to que” for some time. The pattern calls for 23 fabrics. I began pulling fabrics and no problem – I found 27! There are fabrics from three different designers in this quilt – Anna Marie Horner, Tula Pink and Amy Butler. No way I could go wrong with these! As I laid them out and began to pair the prints, eliminating some was no problem. I sewed the log cabins at the April Quilt & Sew-In Retreat. I waited until I was home to cut those blocks into fours (and yes, it did hurt a bit to do that!), play with them on the design wall, and piece them once more. I love this look! As I sewed each original block, it would become my favorite.

There were a few left over blocks so I incorporated them into the back of the quilt. I love all the loops of the machine quilting.

I am also entering this quilt in my guild’s Log Cabin Challenge, which was to make any log cabin quilt, any size. I’m keeping this one and it will be so warm and cozy to curl up under this winter!

It always amazes me how much is accomplished at a 3 day retreat.  Lots of sewing without all the distractions of home! Here are some of the creations from the past weekend – and..there were more!!

Haven’t ever been to a retreat? You are really missing out! Not only do we have a lot of fun, we get a lot accomplished!!

We also worked on a charity project that I will fill you in on next time.
