An Island Batik Adventure
Welcome to my stop on the Island Batik Getaway Blog Hop! Wow – imagine my reaction when I opened this packet of fabrics – 20 half yard cuts!
It is the French Blue collection from Island Batik.
The theme given was travel. It was not easy to come up with a project for this one. I thought perhaps I would do a bargello and somehow incorporate the theme. That just didn’t seem to work for me. After looking through my books, patterns, and Pinterest it came to me – “Scrappy Trip Around the World!”
There was lots of cutting into 2 1/2 inch strips. Sewing, sewing, sewing followed. Once all the blocks were on the design wall, I really wanted the theme to be more obvious. Don’t you just love A-HA moments? First, I carried the pattern outside of the solid border.
Once that was done, I decided to applique a large globe in the center of the quilt and little ones in the four corners.
The quilting was done in large wavy lines to represent water by a long armer – Gone Away Quilting.
This theme was especially relevant to me as Hubby and I are enjoying more travel and have several more places to visit on our wish list. That is one of the reasons I am not continuing on as an Island Batik Ambassador in 2019. It has been a most wonderful experience. The fabrics are beyond gorgeous and the company has been wonderful to work with.
AND there is a Giveaway! All the leftover strips from this quilt can be yours.
Just leave a comment telling me what your next Getaway will be for a chance to win. Winner will be chosen randomly On February 2, notified by email and announced on Sunday, February 3. Be sure to visit the Island Batik Blog for a chance for their giveaway! AND – the hop isn’t over!

I am doing some snowshoeing this weekend! yeah! Love the blues – what lovely quilting!
I want to go to Barcelona!
My next getaway will definitely be to my sewing studio.
Love the globe! Great addition to a Trip Around the World quilt!
Gorgeous colours!! Your quilt is awesome!! My next getaway is during spring break, we are going to visit my son and his girlfriend.
My husband and I have been in 47 of our 50 states, so our next get away will hopefully be to the NE to visit the last 3 states.
Your quilt is very Creative! Wow!! Beautiful!! I’m hoping my next Get Away will be to go visit our Daughter, in NC…Love seeing the Ocean..and all the time we get to have sewing/quilting together! & in person Hugs too!! 🙂 Thank you for chance to win your Give-a-way too 😀
Love your quilt! The colors are great! My next getaway will be to Texas to see family.
My next Get Away is way away…New Zealand!
I just got back from Road to CA (it is about 15 miles from my home.) I got to go for a couple hours to get my fix on. My next big thrill will be trying to make it to M&L’s, but that costs $$$, even if it is only 25 miles away! It will be a while before that trip. But with all the bad news about the weather elsewhere, and shutdowns, I am happy here at home! Me and my sewing machine….
We are planning a Spring Wildflower visit to the Texas Hill Country while visiting family and friends. The colors in these fabrics go well with the colors of the wildflowers. Enjoy your travels.
Next getaway will be to visit my parents in a month. Beautiful quilt, I just finished my first scrappy trip around the world tonight!
I don’t travel far any more, so my next trip will probably be to Montana to see my granddaughter. Of course, it might be even closer to home-60 miles north to see my niece.

Love the globe appliqué inside the around the world blocks. What a clever idea. Sorry to see you finishing up as an ambassador, but I really hope you have some wonderful, wonderful travels in 2019.
Such a lovely quilt! The fabrics are beautiful, too. My next getaway will be somewhere on the Oregon coast. I frequently go to Lincoln City, but Joann’s is the only fabric store there any more. Time to check out some new places. Happy traveling to you in 2019!
Such pretty colors; so bright and cheery! My next getaway will be somewhere on the Oregon coast. I frequently go to Lincoln City, but the only fabric store there now is Joann’s. I like poking around in there, but it’s time to check out some new places. Happy traveling in 2019!
Your quilt is lovely. I am looking forward to going to Europe this Fall. My husband will be the faculty member for a study abroad program and I get to go as his assistant. How great is that! I hope you have a pleasant time traveling. Thank you for the giveaway opportunity.
My next getaway is a trip to MD. Recently my 85-yr-old mother found out her 90-yr-old sister was moved from FL to MD. Will be taking Mom to visit. Love your Trip Around the World quilt. I plan on making one someday too. Thanks for the giveaway too!
Lovely quilt! My next getaway, hopefully, is to go see some of our grandkids!
My next getaway will be a quilt retreat!
I would love to visit Australia! My dream getaway!
My getaway is going to see my BF daughter graduate for vet school in NC. Can’t wait to have a veterinarian in the family!
Not to sound boring but I think my next getaway will likely be my sewing room.
Very pretty! Have fun in your travels. My next getaway will be a trip to the Sewing & Quilt Expo in Atlanta with my quilting/embroidery buddies! But next getaway with the hubs will probably be to the mountains. We love the mountains!
Hope to visit Gillette Stadium next month to see the New England Patriots latest trophy
Very beautiful quilt! So pretty! Enjoy your day! angielovesgary2 atgmail dotcom 🙂 🙂
Love the quilt and what a delight to get all that blue and yellow — one of my favorite color schemes for sure! I just got home from a (productive) stitching retreat and am heading out for another one at the end of February. Can’t wait!
I want my next major getaway to be to the Galapagos Islands. I have been looking at a couple of tour packages. Now to put my funds aside.
I love your quilt! Not sure where or when our next getaway will be–right now I’m recovering from a stem cell transplant (treatment for my cancer). The doctors don’t want me traveling domestically for 6 months, or internationally for at least a year!
Getaways are the best and your quilt certainly embraces that! We are heading off on a Mediterranean cruise this weekend for 7 days. Good timing, too, since we are experiencing record-breaking low temperatures and wind chills here in the Midwest!
What a beautiful quilt! I love the blue and yellow color combination. My next getaway is a European river cruise. Thanks!
Ireland would be fun to visit.
I’m Living my dream & going on a sewing/quilting cruise next month. So very excited to be able to do this-always dreamed about going & now I’m doing it.
Your quilt is absolutely stunning! And it’s so personally meaningful, given your plans to travel. Thanks so much for sharing this. My next getaway will be a family reunion in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I’m really excited about it!
