As an Island Batik Ambassador, each year we reapply and this year we were required to submit a block of our choice. Yes, the block from you know where. Actually, it wasn’t the block – it was me! I chose a paper pieced block pattern from the book Grandma’s Best Quilt Blocks. I needed to enlarge it so I did so by drawing it on paper piecing paper and then copied it as needed. Having completed one full block (4 sections), I realized it was not to size – my copier had enlarged it by 1/4 inch. I know, I know – I should have checked before sewing.
Hubby to the rescue. Rather than me having to hand draw the parts, he put it on EQ and printed copies exactly to size. Unfortunately, the stage was set! One section, I realized, had two fabrics reversed. On another, one of the long skinny pieces did not go all the way to the end. I so needed to walk away so I cleared leaves for two hours and it really helped!
It was a Saturday and I originally wanted to get it in the mail at 2:00 PM. Now my new goal was 10 PM that night! Including taking the paper backing off, I finished two hours earlier than that. Obviously, it is not an advanced block, nor a beginners block. On a normal day, under normal circumstances, I should have done everything within two hours. I won’t be getting this block back – good thing because it would never be made into a quilt – One and Done! (it is a pretty block, though)
Wow – but It is a beautiful block! I’m loving those blues!
Indeed it is a beautiful block – Love those blues. I’m not a paper piecar so mine would have never made it to the one and done catagory 🤗
